About us
Who we are, what we do, how to contact us
A Community Council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Local Authority and run by local residents to act on behalf of its area. As the most local tier of elected representation, Community Councils play an important role in local democracy. Elections for the Community Council are held every 4 years or 5 years. The last election was held in September 2023.
There are currently 8 Community Councillors but we can have up to 10 so we are actively looking for individuals who would like to join us. If you care about your community and want to make it a better place to live then why not come along to a meeting and see if it is for you?
As well as representing the views of the community to the local authority, the Community Council will facilitate a wide range of activities which promote the well-being of Freuchie residents such as setting up a Community Larder to address cost of living concerns, running a community cafe to provide a warm space for villagers to meet and socialise, arranging for a clear up of the community orchard in Albany Park and organising the village Christmas tree and Christmas lights
Community Councils bring local people together to help make things happen and will also work to protect and promote the identity of our village. We advise, petition, influence and advocate numerous causes and cases of concern on behalf of Freuchie residents from road safety and flood mitigation to grass cutting and pot holes.
The Community Council is the strongest means of becoming involved with your village. It will give you a good understanding of the workings of local government and what is going on locally and nationally. Why don't you join us?
